The Agentic Software Factory is the Wrong Metaphor

The software factory is back, with AI agents on the line. But software engineering has always been design engineering: code is the design, and the build was automated decades ago. Coding agents don't turn development into manufacturing. They make design and experimentation dramatically cheaper, and that's how we should use them.
